Aggregate Winnings – Complete sum of all winnings brought in by a player in a casino at the end of the day, does not account for any losses.

Ante – Most all card games in a casino require a minimum bet to be placed before a player may take part in the game. Some games, such as versions of poker, allow players to raise the ante.

Baccarat – Of all the games in any given casino, Baccarat is perhaps the most famous for being a game of very high stakes. It is simple and played with six to eight decks of cards, but the wagers are notoriously high. The one game which can seriously affect a casino’s profits.

Banker – This is sometimes the nickname given to the dealer, but other times, depending upon the particular table game in question, one of the players may serve the role of banker.

Beginners Luck – New players are often teased of having this form of fortune, particularly if they experience any kind of winning streak when first starting out.

Bonus – A variety of incentives, usually cash based, offered to new or steady players at an online casino to encourage them to continue to patronize the establishment.

Brick – This is a term primarily used among poker players, may refer to a ‘blank’ in a game like 7 Card Stud, but is generally any card that won’t be helpful to a player’s winning the game.

Camouflage – An attempt to cover up or conceal one’s identity from casino staff in order to appear innocuous and not in need of being profiled. Generally means a highly skilled player that generally wins is attempting to keep a low profile by acting tipsy or as if they are just like every other patron in the casino at the time.

Casino – House of gaming that comes from the Italian phrase meaning “little house”. Began centuries ago in Venice and continues on today as a traditional and legal place for people to come together and enjoy games of wagering.

Case money – Money set aside for “just in case” emergencies.

Chase – When a player loses a bet and immediately places another in an attempt to recoup their loss, this is called ‘chasing’.

Edge – Any advantage that one might have over their opponents at a casino table.

Odds – Formula that employs arithmetic to arrive at a logical conclusion as to what the chances of winning or losing any given game will be. Usually indicates the fraction that the winner’s stake will be multiplied by if they win.

Progressive – A form of jackpot that is generally in reference to either slot machines or different forms of lotteries. A percentage of all the wagers placed in the forms of tokens paid in or ticket sales are set aside and fed into the jackpot which anyone could win.

Showdown – During the last round of wagering in a poker game, everyone left in the pot has to display the hand they hold. This is called a showdown and is used to decide the winner.

Suit – Clubs, Hearts, Spades or Diamonds are all suits, ways of dividing a typical deck of playing cards.
